Pro Bono Program
Some of the best work has no budget behind it.
Every year a defined share of our capacity goes to organizations that could never afford to hire us. It is a line in the annual plan, not whatever happens to be left over in December.
How it works
Four steps, no application fee, no committee
We answer within two weeks
Yes, no, or a referral to someone better suited. A no comes with the reason, so you can use it.
We scope it in writing
Pro bono work gets the same written scope and the same named principal as paid work. The only difference is the invoice.
You own the result
Findings, materials and introductions are yours. We ask only that you let us describe the work publicly.
What we look for
- Environmental or community work with a specific, nameable outcome
- A budget genuinely too small for consulting fees
- Local leadership already in place, not a project looking for a community
- A decision we can actually help unblock in a defined amount of time
- Willingness to let us talk about the work afterward
What we cannot help with
- Open ended advisory with no defined question
- Fundraising on your behalf or writing grant applications end to end
- Work outside our six practice areas, however worthwhile
- Projects where the technology has not been proven anywhere yet
- Organizations that can afford to pay and would simply prefer not to
